Exhibition walkthrough and workshop for teens (13-17) and parents/guardians.
In conjunction with Hummingbirds and Hamburgers: call to action, Christine Ellison and Erato Tzavara invite you to participate in a workshop and walkthrough of the exhibition on Saturday 1st April 11.00-13.00.
Let’s experience together how movement and play can be used as tools for exploring our everyday relationship with digital technology. During this intergenerational workshop, we will look at the artwork and learn more about the creative process. We will experiment together in group activities that respond to the exhibition. This will involve movement*, play and discussion about digital devices, the screen interface, and how we interact with technology every day. This is an opportunity to be active participants in an ongoing Art research project, with shared outcomes in the UK and internationally.
*no movement or performance experience is required.
You can book your ticket for the event here.
About the artists:
Christine Ellison is an artist and educator based in Reading, UK. Through performative works - that encompass movement, video, sound, costume, collage and animation – she considers what it might mean to occupy a post-digital space. Christine is interested in the idea that digital mechanisms are so embedded in our everyday that they become invisible. With an emphasis on language and tools, her work involves a ‘making strange’ of the ordinary in order to think about it differently. She regularly works with collaborators from other fields including music, dance, choreography and design. As an educator, Christine engages students and members of the local community in workshops and performance-led research. She has exhibited and performed extensively across the UK, Ireland and internationally since 2006, often under the monikers of Polly Fibre or Agency of Noise. Christine is an Associate Professor in Art at the University of Reading.
Erato Tzavara is a video artist from Athens, Greece, who specializes in moving image techniques for live performance and digital scenography. Through international collaborations in dance, theatre and music improvisation she works with the plasticity of the digital image in physical space and the dialogue of video design with the body on the theatrical stage. Erato has presented work in theatres, off-scene artistic spaces, music venues and international festivals across Europe, US, Canada and Asia. Her work is based on interdisciplinary collaboration, participation and cross pollination, transcending disciplinary and form boundaries. As an educator, Erato has been devising and facilitating multimedia education workshops for 20 years. With a background in Psychology studies, she has used video, 2d animation, photography and the body to work with different ages, abilities and social backgrounds. Since 2013, she has been co-creating innovative educational programs and live performances for kids and young people with Athens based AV education group GNOUS! under the support of the Onassis Cultural Center, GR.
