Proxies Studio Screening

This informal work-in-progress event presents the current two-screen video installation, developed through recent residencies and exhibitions. The film combines staged re-enactment, puppet performance, and documentary material, centred on the restaging of a German radio interview in the context of the war in Ukraine. Through the use of handmade figurative puppets as stand-ins or ‘proxies’, the work reflects on mediation, distance, vulnerability, and the politics of representation.

The screening offers an opportunity to encounter the project in its evolving form and to take part in a conversation about its development. The event forms part of the wider research trajectory of Proxies, which explores how performance, drawing, and video can function as tools for witnessing and critical reflection in times of crisis.

Proxies was developed with support from Milvus Artistic Research Center, Sweden, Assortymentna Kymnata, Ukraine, Voloshyn Gallery, Culture Moves Europe, Arts Council England, and the University of Reading.
