Fac simile
Is history ever truly stable, or is it always a shifting facsimile of past realities? If history is built on reproductions, reinterpretations, and reconstructions, how do we determine what is real—and who has the power to decide?
Fac simile explores an imaginary archive, juxtaposed with contemporary painting, photography, installation, and video work. This exhibition experiments with an archive-oriented curatorial approach, highlighting the intersection between archive, curation, and creative practice. By placing contemporary creative works in dialogue with the historical archive, the exhibition examines how history is translated, reproduced, and disseminated. It questions the accuracy, authenticity, and preservation of histories through their iterations, raising urgent concerns about ownership and authority in contemporary history-making.
The exhibition features works by Mia Baraka, Ivan TL Chan, Chantelle Chong, Ken Chung, Amelia Akiko Frank, Jimmi Wing Ka Ho, Jiaqi Lyu, Tiyana A. Mitchell, Dennis Ngan, Anais Öst, and Wenxuan Wang.
Curated by Ivana Ng.
